Of Female Pilots and AirAsia

Inspiring, especially for female aspiring pilots.

On a flight back from London recently, I popped into the flight deck to say hello to the pilots. To my pleasant surprise I saw one of our up-and-coming female first officers, Shara sitting behind the controls. It's moments like these when I can't help but feel a bit like a sentimental fool. Shara is the first woman in Asean to fly the A340 and I'm really proud of her. Her achievement is a sign of our success at creating an environment of equal opportunity for women at AirAsia.

Of Pregnancy and flying.

I'm just curious, can a pregnant pilot fly an aircraft?

A pregnant Flight crew may it be cabin or tech crew, shall be on leave for 9 months after confirming that they are pregnant. They are required to go on leave after 2 months of pregnancy and be given 9 months of paid leave. (as per company policy)

I am looking forward to see the first female capt in Air Asia ....... :)

AFAIK, Capt Pearl Mak was the first female capt in M'sia flying commercial jet (B727-200F) with Transmile a few years ago ........ ;)

IICRC, Cathay Pacific Airways already have more than 10 female capts, flying A330/A340/B777 and Dragonair has 1 female capt flying B747-400F...... :o.o:

I guessed people in MAS (maybe in SIA as well) are still having a ''Mental Blockage'' syndrome for not recruiting female pilots ........ :<.<:
