Contact lens + Sunglasses or Prescription Sunglasses

Postby Teddy » Sat Jun 13, 2009 7:30 pm

As per title, which combination works better for pilots? Put on contact lens and a pair of sunglasses or just get a pair of prescribed sunglasses?

As far as I'm concerned, short-sighted pilots are required to have at least 2 pairs of glasses with them when flying. Do prescribed sunglasses + one normal glasses justify?

i think we should bring both of it..
wearing contact lenses is not good for eyes when flying at higher altitude because at that particular altitude due to high pressure & lacked of oxygen..our eye needs oxygen..so,klu pakai contact lens kandungan oxygen yang masuk kat mata lagi la susah..mata kita akan cepat letih,& can affect our flying concentration..this is what i learned during DCAT.
i was trying wearing contact lens previously,it makes my eyes tired..i decided not to wearing contact lens during my flight.
so,i buy prescribed sunglasses..its so comfortable.

How much does your pair of prescribed sunglasses cost? So you bring your usual glasses + the prescribed sunglasses only during your flight, or 2 usual glasses + 1 prescribed sunglasses?

I have some contact lenses and a pair of glasses now, and I'm wondering if I should get just one prescribed sunglasses, or get one more normal glasses + one normal sunglasses.

1 pair prescribed sunglasses i think is just enough for you because you already have glasses & contact lenses..

What if I leave my contacts behind, wearing just the prescribed sunglasses and bringing along a pair of normal glasses? Will that justify DCA's requirement of bringing at least one extra pair of glasses for short-sighted pilots?

Teddy,

Not so sure about this onne though. But lets figure out the common sense first. Imagine you're flying at night, and you are wearing normal pair of glasses, and they suddenly break. You can't wear your ray-bans at night right? Then how are you gonna fly?

Just my opinion on this matter.
I fly them; I love them

i only have pair of normal glasses..i'm not doing night rating yet because i just started flying,so i think a pair of normal glasses & prescribed sunglasses is enough for me at this stage..i hope my glasses wont break..hehehe..
later on i will make 1 more normal glasses as per dca requirement for pilot which needs at least 2 normal glasses..

if you decided to wear contact lens,no need prescribed sunglasses, normal sunglasses is just enough for you..its all depends on you..but as i said before, wearing contact lens not good for your eye especially during flight.

I have thought about it too. Since not many hours are allocated for night flight for a cadet pilot, I might just wear a pair of contact lenses, then bring the normal glasses with me. How long does it takes for a newbie to reach the night flying stage?

Maybe I can get just a prescribed sunglasses for now, then only decide if I will be getting another pair of normal glasses later on when the night flying stage arrives?
