Not sure what MAS is trying to do...
Those days, it was known as Mechanic. Now MAS calls them Junior Technicians.
Anyway, I will use the term junior tecnicians in this post.
I believe originally, MAS takes SPM school leavers without any diploma whatsoever, train them for 2 years & they become Junior technicians.
Nowadays, with so many colleges offering Diploma in aircraft maintenance, which include a few months of OJT, MAS took the shortcut way to get Junior Technicians - via the BJT programme. Requirement is BJT candidate must have diploma in aircraft maintenance, then MAS will train them for 3 to 9 months, then they can be Junior Technicians...
In a nutshell, by law you don't need any qualification to be a mechanic / junior tech. MAS is the best example of a company that always changes it's "minimum requirements" for apprenticeship based on what's available in the market & supply / demand.
