Erm... Recently a guy from Institute Technology of Carlow (its in Ireland) came to my college at Nilai to give an intro for that institute. If I'm not mistaken, it offers us a degree at Ireland, and after that you can pursue Bachelor's degree and masters in aircraft systems it says, at UK (they have already set the path for us). The good thing is, if you are a Malaysian, you do not have to apply for visa before you leave for Ireland, you can just get there and they will give you one month to settle your Student Visa. And Ireland has two parts, one in UK and another is not. So IT Carlow is not in UK and their currency is in Euros, not pounds, which makes life more affordable. They also allow students to work up to 20 hours a week or so, which can be used to cover up an average student's lifestyle (of course not clubbing everyday ><). The total fee is like RM 85 000 inclusive of living costs as they say.

Anyway, all these info is what I've heard from them, and may not be totally true. You've better check up with them first and see. And the course is three years I think, and if you have a diploma or something better, they may even let you into second or third year straight~ That's all I know, hope it helps~

Bro,

Why do you need a DEGREE to become a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer? Don't waste time and money to do your degree overseas....just check on aviation jobs advertisement for LAE...what are the requirements to be accepted by the industry?
Licensed issued by the National Aviation Authority - thats it !!!!

Is there a reason(at least) why you need to be a Flight Engineer?
Any particular type of aircraft that you want to 'sit in'?
The profession is about to be extinct just like to dinasaur..

As far as I know, if we have a degree in aircraft maintenace, we may pursue category C certifying staff- Base maintenance certifying Engineer. And actually so called License Aircraft Engineer; LAE category B is defined as Maintenance Certifying Technician (Not Engineer) according to EASA part-66.

You simply cannot acquire Cat C without getting the experience of cat B.
I see the whole set up of EASA is similar to FAA, you are right, the whole EASA-66 process is for a maintenance certifying technicians, however, it is the diploma and/or degree qualifications that entitles you the engineer's position.
