As former professional Flight Engineer, I think your question is relative to Gas turbine engines.
- We normally shut down the engine by the HP cock
- The Low pressure cock is related to the fire and emergency procedures. We normally never close it
The reasons are:
- the distance between the LP cock and the injectors can be important, the closure by the LP has not an immediate effect (waiting time can be up to 1 minute+: it can be dangerous),and it is not a good practice to empty the HP line, at the next start up, the HP system will be dry during a short while. On contrary, the HP cock is closest to the injection. The HP cock is after the HP pumps and, when closed, maintains some lubricating fuel inside HP components.
