Aircraft maintenance crew? Aircraft Engineers

Postby DanielO » Tue Jan 10, 2012 12:48 pm

Is there any different between aircraft maintenance crew and aircraft engineers?

I wana be a aircraft maintenance crew as my future career, i jus finished my spm...what path way should i choose?

I went to edu fair, and there are many different offers on the course...range from 40k~170k?? (confused)(NO SCHOLARSHIP)!
is there any scholarship out there for this program? i dun mind not getting any degree or etc, i jus wan a license on aircraft maintenance! :p

HELP! i need to know the pathway of aircraft maintenance crew / aircraft engineers
Even though to be a pilot is a long and hard way, but i will never give up so easily because its my dream to fly as a pilot. Bringing passengers from places to places safely.

As far as Edu fair is concerned, there's only two and these two are basically similar Approved Training Organization approved by DCA Malaysia,APR-ATC and DTS. This is important and disregard whatever you heard from non-approved organization. Is that too many for you?

Licensed engineers are part of maintenance crew or team or whatever you want to name them. The other members of the crew are but not limited to: Senior Technicians, Technicians, Junior Technicians, trainees etc..

Having said that, if you want to be a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer the best way is to enroll into one of these ATOs(APR or DTS) and you should be one within 4-5 years.

APR has MARA loan facilities if you're a Bumiputra, withdrawal from EPF (parents account) and of course commercial personal loans etc.. No PTPTN here as this is a professional training and NOT recognized by MQA.

ANy other issues/uncertainties/concerns?

If you go to the Authority's website (Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia) - dca.gov.my - click on career - and you can see:-
1. How to become a pilot
2. How to become Air Trafic Controller
But when you click on aircraft maintenance engineer - NOTHING happen.

Enough said - that's the sorry state of our aircraft maintenance industry. Lots of jobs oppurtunities BUT no recognition, nothing. Or is it everybody just being KIASU.

TRY this address - www.caa.govt.nz/safety_info/How_tos/LAMEhow_to.pdf

As much as it is New Zealand - the similarities will give you some ideas.

If NOT mistaken; APR-ATC website used to have a page on career path?????

What a way to start my day today; being sarcastic about DCA.

TAME= Trainee Aircraft Maintenance Engineer
LAME= Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer

You'll be a TAME prior to LAME.

You should have asked APR's staff why the 3 and 4 years course. Here's the answers.
4 years if you're from SPM. 3 years if you enter with diploma/degree in any engineering disciplines.

Only APR have MARA loans, Yayasan Terengganu, Sarawak, Sabah, Selangor,and EPF withdrawal facilities. DTS is 'new' they started about 2 years ago whilst APR since 1997.

orang tua, what can I say. The fish starts to rot from the head they say.. :><:

I was part of a maintenance crew.. just like orang tua ;)

Hard/tough? You bet! Much much easier to get a degree I'd say. This is a profession where you're multi skilled and multitrade, good in theory, excellent in practical and you solve problems by applying both skills and experience gathered. All knowledge that you learnt are used in your work, not to pass some exams just to get a piece of paper.. thats the difference when you're in aviation. And you're constantly being retrain(mandatory requirement) so that you use the latest technology and skills as the industry develops.. The learning process never stops when you're in aviation maintenance industry.. If you hate study, stay away!
Hard is a subjective matter. Either you have it to become one or you don't! :><.:
