There is always two sides of a coin or there are more than one way to 'skin a cat'.. (no idea why anyone would want to do it)
The point is, there is an 'easy way', and 'harder way'.. a shorter path or longer path..
"easy/shorter" way would be enrolling in a TAME course offered by the ATOs.. can be costly but within 3-4 years you should get the Part 66 AML.
The harder/longer (but can be 'easy' on the $$$) is to start from the bottom, ie become a junior tech(at least), work your way up and take the B1/B2 exams part time. No issues with live aircraft experience because you're already working on it!
The only ATO at the moment that is GOING to offer this would be APR- Aviation Training Centre. Checkout their Facebook pages or call/email them with your enquiries.
The good thing with this is that you can plan your time and finance when to sit and finish the modules at your pace...
