dear Vengerina..

1. try log in to CAA UK website (caa.co.uk) and see if you got anything you search for.

If my memory doesn't tell wrong..CAA UK put it under CAP code number.. CAP 741.

One good piece of advise is the CAA Surveyor prefers to see entries sorted by ATA chapter rather than in date order.

This allows them to review your completed logbook faster rather than having to jump back and forth in the folder to confirm if you have a broad enough scope of tasks.

It has always been a practise that we sort it out by ATA chapters. :^^:

I think this is an interesting topic to be discussed and it will give more guidance to newbie like me. ::D: I have a few question and I hope all the Otai and senior could help me. ::D:

1. Can we write the task in the logbook only base on observation without any hands-on?

2. How detail we need to write the task in the logbook? Can we copy the procedure/description from AMM/SRM or we need to elaborate and use our own word / knowledge?

1. Can we write the task in the logbook only base on observation without any hands-on?

YES. example : Observed engine ground run (EGR) carried out following fuel injectors replacement to check for leak and proper operation. EGR carried out as per AMM bla bla bla... Found satisfactory.

2. How detail we need to write the task in the logbook? Can we copy the procedure/description from AMM/SRM or we need to elaborate and use our own word / knowledge?

Once you know how to write technical sentence.. it will be easy. Yes apart from the date, a/c type, company, signatures etc, we need the details of the work done. Don't copy directly from the AMM.

example: Assisted in carrying out detailed visual inspection of front windshield weather seal as per AMM: 56-10-12. Found not satisfactory. Weather seal required repair.

that is just one example..

the example i gave is of 'old skool type'. but for a more complex task/ long hours task.. you can detail out all the work done in a single sheet. it looks dense ... i like this type too.

Like example: one of skin area need a repair due to dented. to do that, it required a removal of many associated parts such as
- avionics thingy
- a lot of panels
- pipe lines
- wiring
- even pilot seat!
- control stick/whatever type you may interfere with.
- many more.

So instead of writing down all works done one by one which is time and paper consuming, you can compress them in just one single sheet if you can. this is smarter.

btw.. writing down tasks is not limited to certain type.. it's on your freedom on how you gonna write it as long as your grammar is correct.

dont forget one thing : USE PASSIVE SENTENCE. NOT THE ACTIVE. The work carried out by you NOT I carried out the work. get it?

Technical report writing skills will help you to write a good work schedule.
Try to summarize the work done but know the details of the work that you're writing.
Of course you should also read what exactly is in the manual but you should also be aware that certain things that is done/discovered while actually doing the job.(trick of the trade)
The DCA surveyor will know if you're just a 'copy cat' or the one actually doing the written tasks especially during the oral.
In Part 66, the practical accessor will do the same! :^^:

If write in order to ATA chapters that means we cant write it everyday but record it somewhere else and transfer to the logbook on last day? Because the task we do today might not be in sequence to the task(according to ATA chap) we will perform tmr right?
