another incident happening for trainee pilot of APFT:
KOTA BARU: A flight training instructor and his trainee escaped unhurt when the light aircraft they were in careened off the runaway before stopping on a patch of grass while landing at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport yesterday. Trainee Mohd Hisham Mohd Nazir, 21, was piloting an Eagle aircraft with instructor Meor Muhammad Iqbal, 26, at 3.30pm when the incident occurred. The two were from the Asia Pacific Flight Training (APFT) school based at the airport.
APFT principal Datuk Mohd Khalid Ali said: “The Eagle aircraft which was being flown by Hisham touched down and bounced before careening off onto the grass patch outside the landing strip. The aircraft and occupants were okay. The engine was shut down and the plane was towed to the hangar.
“It was a hard landing but not a serious incident as the student was inexperienced with only 11 hours of flight training.”
Khalid said the plane was leased from Malacca-based Composite Technologies Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
He said the Department of Civil Aviation would be informed.
In May, a Diamond DA40 plane belonging to the same school lost power in mid-air but was glided to safety and landed on an empty stretch of the Tok Jembal beach in Kuala Terengganu.
The flight instructor, Captain Naing Myint Khine, 46, from Myanmar, and trainee pilot Shafiq Haizam Mohd Kamil, 19, walked away unhurt.
