the sole fact that they can maintain a good safety record, provide a safe flight to passengers.. is enough to make them the best .. at least the best for me ...

Well, historically MAS was the best. But not anymore. 5-star rating under review. In-flight service facing fierce competition from 4-star airlines. Seats in business class not on par with those in the same league. The new 738 seating config received a lot of criticism due to poor seat pitch with 30" in EY. (read the reviews on Skytrax if you don't believe me). Flight frequencies are not appealing to passengers.

The cabin crews, I have to admit are giving their best in terms of service and hospitality. But that alone cannot save the airline.

Safety records is debatable. If we are looking at that, even some 3rd world country airline has got accident free record under their belt.

With all that into account, YES the group as a whole should be free from government interference otherwise we are looking at the sinking ship. Of course the company must be free from AK's interference as well. We all know what the red fler is planning. "Buy your enemy, kill it and rule alone"

It goes the same too with Engineering. MAS used to received Boeing's award 6 years in a row for despatch realiability exceeding 97%. These were in the 80's.. A B737-400 B Check used to take only 4.5 days.. not anymore... You're lucky if it's out in 2 weeks now... The red fler has already stopped third party works and one maintennce line has NO aircrafts to work on till March next year...
m732, your quote there unfortunately will be true... :(

Come Feb 2012, except engineering, academy and simulators. All departments based in SZB will move to KUL. Another way to reduce workforce since some would opt to resign due logistical/commuting issues. Easy way out for the company, no need to go through the MSS/VSS headaches.

Yup, technically speaking MAS is a private entity. Just that you have Khazanah Nasional (our government investment arm) being the largest stakeholder in company. And those people are "smart" enough to interfere in every business aspect leading to the sad state of the group right now :( :<.<: .
