Fly Lah!

Overheard on Subang Ground frequency - the controller always say "9M-XXX, taxi to holding point runway 15".
Which holding point???
I hear most pilots read back "Taxi holding point runway 15" or "Taxiing to holding point Foxtrot" or "Request for holding point Foxtrot".

Why doesn't the ground controller assign a holding point?
Is it because he/she wants to give the pilot freedom to decide which holding point they wish?
If that is so, what should the pilot reply be? To request for a particular holding point or taxi on and announce which holding point you are when you get there?
