A320 Rating to get a position in an airline??

Postby kenpaul526 » Sat Sep 04, 2010 3:46 am

Recently I found that most of the low cost carrier required direct entry pilot paid for themselves to get A320 rating. For most self-funded students like me cant afford the cost after finish paying expensive fee to academy. The rating cost 60k at CAE Kuala Lumpur (https://pilot.cae.com/Programs/AirAsia.aspx), my father had loan 200k from bank. So someone can give me an opinion what to do after finish the course and do share your experiences here. :(

P.S Any cadet can provide me the AFI Course fee~!!

Only foreign airlines required to pay for the type rating.
Malaysia government restricted new fresh foreigners to work in Malaysia except those with experience and type rating.
So same thing outside there.

60k for the rating is still considerable, but do you think you can secure a job after you get the rating?
What if you still jobless after you spent RM60k? Other than that, your skill test will expired in 28 days if you didnt go for endorsement. If you do endorsement all together I think you have to pay RM150k.

My advise is maybe you can wait for few months first. If really no news from any airlines then only take up AFI course under bonded skim with your flying academy. At least you still keep intact with flying. You still have chance to join airlines in the future.

AFI Course is around RM28k if you do it privately.

Good Luck and all the best...
"Learn from mistake" is totally not suitable for a pilot. You might be don't have chance to fly again after you did a mistake. You can only learn from people's mistake.

I don't think so, the few of my seniors/juniors who are working with AK didn't pay anything. Besides the 5-7yr bond that they have to sign.

They are self-sponsored cadets.

But you have to understand that those guys were hired by AirAsia and they are bonded for 6 years.

It is all plain true that the issue here is not how much u have spent, rather than if u can secure a job with an airline or not. After all, what's the big deal to be bonded for 6 years? if u oledi secured a job as a pilot??

The point that I'm stating to kenpaul IS, People who are hired by AirAsia or by other airlines do not have to spend a single cent on the type rating... and on the other hand, they are bonded for 6 years which is no big deal but just FOR YOUR INFO..

Cheers.
