Yes, true potgas, not the entire fleet but the KK hub would be primarily occupied by B738s to fly the popular Asian routes with the new aircraft and also aussie destinations looking at the shorter travel distance and time from KK. From what i read of course
And its true MAS are having excess pilots for now but looking at the future landscape of air travel that's economically rebounding and according to reports by Boeing on the Asia Pacific region's demand for air travel thats increasing, seems like the need to train pilots are evident to cope with future growth, no airline wants to be left behind with an issue of unable to meet demand when demand paramounts soon. The benefit / profit to be derived by meeting demand and capitalising on demand definitely outweighs the cost of training and employing pilots while demand grows gradually. Benefit > Cost

, so why not rite. It's the same concept in the offering of VSS during economic downturns by corporate companies. MAS is also according to reports in a contractual agreement with a respected flying school and therefore is pressured legally to send their cadets to train to avoid damages and rescission; law of contract, except in the defence of excruciating circumstances.
And as an airline with an exceptional reputation, there should be valid reasons for their conduct in hiring cadet pilots ultimately, its evident looking at SIA hiring as well, both major players in the region wanting a piece of the future market share of passenger demand.
In lay terms, its better to lose (invest) RM5 in order to gain(dividend) of RM 50 later on when investments mature / skyrocket.
Well, I had a buddy of mine who trained wit SIA and was left redundant during the economic downturn after graduation, and was let to go to join Jetstar Asia and now is being recalled by SIA due to their inability to meet increasing demand because of pilot shortage.
The Asian region is very promising after the recent downturn(sub-prime crisis in US), everyone wants a share of the jewel

now.
All major investment banks and aviation analysts have released prospective and green reports on the Asian aviation sector and MAS is going to cap on it under YM Tengku Dato' Azmil Zahruddin.
My opinion on an economic aspect of the reason for hiring pilots.
No offence to anyone guys, foremost.
