Female pilots

Postby rinoa_a2 » Thu Aug 05, 2010 1:05 pm

Hi, I am 21 and in my final year of my degree at the moment. I am thinking of pursuing my piloting dreams after i graduate, but first i need to know my available options. i know how limited female pilots are out there and if it is hard for the male counterparts to even secure a job nowadays, it should be even harder for me. Do advise me how to apply, since becoming a cadet pilot for the companies are out of the question due to my gender and Mara does not give out loans anymore, are there any other resources that i can opt for?

do help me!
Thank you for reading :)

Are you a female?

Well dont worry about job first. Aim to do well in all your exams and you wont find a problem to be absord by airlines already. since you are a female, then you have the option of joining AirAsia only for fresh grad.

Dont worry bout it.

Well you can check out Honda Dreams Fund. Is a full scholarship for those underpriviledge ppl. can check it out at www.honda.com.my/hdf

Hi rinoa,
Good to see a female aspiring pilot out here.

Here's what I know, firstly, MAS is out of the question since they only employ male pilots. Nevertheless, Air Asia employs female pilots there. I personally know a female pilot there. So the only local company you could work for, is well, Air Asia.
Of course, there's 2 ways of getting in. Private or via cadet pilot programme.

Foreign airliners, closes would be SIA. SIA also hires female pilots, but normally places them in SilkAir, a SIA subsidiary.

I'm not too sure about MARA loans, as I am not eligible for that, but know that MARA has an agreement with MAS to hire cadets that are under MARA loans, to be hired after completing flying school.

Your other option, would be private funding, and expect to pay/take a loan of RM300K. Private funding from banks are usually limited to RM150K with a 8% interest, which is damn high. Best immediate option, and a safer one would be to wait for Air Asia cadet pilot programme to open up, and then apply there.

There are reasons why MAS doesn't select female cadets/pilots. There is a reason behind it, and some airliners too don't hire female pilots. It's not a sexist policy as some may think. JAL also employs female pilots, I've seen a few in training before, in our very own MFA actually.

I wish you all the best in succeeding and achieving your dreams to be a commercial pilot. :)
