Physical minimum qualification to be a pilot

Postby Syafiqikhwan » Sat Sep 03, 2011 3:41 am

Salam and Hi.

I'm new here. I always wanted to be a pilot ever since I was 4yo. But when I was in standard 5, i had to wear glasses and ppl told me that I could no longer be a pilot. So since that day, I started to find new dream job.

Fyi, I have been working with one of telco companies in Msia but it's not what I want to do. I was just being told by a friend who is a pilot and he encourages me to apply for flying school.

But I wonder if there is any special physical requirement because I'm quite small, 162 cm.

And I'm also wearing glasses with power of 200/175.

Is there still hope for me to become a pilot?

162cm is just 1cm below requirement, i think it should be no problem. For eyes, "wear glasses and cannot be pilot" is old stories.
If you remember when you are doing eye test, they give you a series of letters from biggest to smallest, if you can see the biggest letter without optical aid and able to see the smallest with optical aid, as long as it is correctable to 6/6, you are no problem to become a pilot.

Here is the eye chart: http://www.eyequestions.com/images/Chart1.jpg

I think people who cannot see the biggest letter during eye test are partially blind already.
Pilot is not an easy job, but I love flying and I will take the risk!
